A popular proxy service has been temporarily taken offline after an “unknown attack” forced the closure of its servers, leaving some users unable to access the site.
TorrentFreak has identified ProxyDNS as one of the top proxy sites in the world, which has been used to deliver thousands of films and TV shows to thousands of users in a short period of time.
Torrentfreak discovered that TorrentDNS servers were down by Saturday evening, and the company has now confirmed that the service is offline.
“We are aware of the issue affecting our site and will be contacting affected users on our website and social media channels to inform them of the status of their service,” TorrentDns told TorrentFreaks in a statement.
“TorrentDNS is currently running a full maintenance operation.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
If you are experiencing problems accessing the site, please contact us at [email protected]”
TorrentDntns is a popular torrent proxy service, offering a list of popular websites including Movie, Torrent, TV and Movies.
Users can choose to install the software on their own or buy it from other sites.
TorrentDnys servers were first deployed on April 8, and users could use them to access films, TV shows and other content that was previously unavailable on their local internet.
However, on Thursday the company announced that it was shutting down the service due to “an unknown attack”.
TorrentDots services are free to use, but the company’s website warns users to be wary of the service’s security features.
“Your IP address may be tracked and used against you for purposes unrelated to your use of the site,” the website states.
A TorrentDNTs official website said the site was “working to resolve the issue”.
TorrentFreAK has contacted TorrentDNys to request comment on the incident.
TorrentTorrents, the largest torrent proxy site, has also confirmed the issue.
The company said that the problem had affected users who had been downloading films from the site for several hours, but that they had not experienced any problems.
The official TorrentTorrent website said that it is aware of a problem affecting some users accessing the TorrentDontns website.
“The issue appears to have been caused by a ‘malicious’ download,” the site says.
“It is not yet clear how it was able to take down the site or what the cause is.
We will work with you and the public to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”
TorrentTorrent has confirmed that it has been notified of the problem and is working to resolve it.
“In the meantime, we advise users to use the VPN, as this should be sufficient to avoid any data leakage.
Thank you for your patience,” the company wrote on Twitter.
“Please be aware that while we are aware this is a problem, we are unable to give any further details as we do not know what is behind it.
Please be advised that we are working to provide updates to all users as quickly and as easily as possible.
In the meantime please follow us on Twitter and the official TorrentDnaNS page to stay up to date on the latest news and developments.”
The problem with proxy services is well known.
Earlier this year, a number of popular torrent sites including PirateBay, Mp3Bay and Vimeo were taken offline by torrent tracker BitTorrent in response to a breach.
A number of other popular sites were also affected by this incident, including the Pirate Bay and The Pirate Bay Movies section.
Torrentdns and TorrentTorrent are two of the world’s biggest torrent proxy sites, and TorrentFreack is one of several publications that reported on the situation.
A TorrentTorrent user who goes by the handle AnonymousAnonymous confirmed to TorrentFreaky that the site had been shut down by TorrentDnos.
“I think TorrentDons problems are a reflection of the fact that a lot of people are not using proxies at all, and there are few legitimate sites,” the user told Torrentfreaky.
“There are also a lot more websites that don’t use proxies, like Netflix, HBO GO, and others.”
TorrentFreaker is a UK-based publication that regularly publishes a roundup of the latest internet news and features.
TorrentMast, a popular proxy server for films, television and music, was also taken offline this week.
